Chairman Royce Applauds Germany’s Recognition of Armenian Genocide

Updated: Jul 1, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) applauded yesterday’s vote by the German Bundestag to recognize the Armenian Genocide, during which 1.5 million innocent lives were taken.

“Germany’s vote to recognize the Armenian Genocide is a major event. Acknowledging this dark moment in history is a victory for human rights.  The annihilation of millions of Armenians was genocide. Period. And the 1.5 million innocent men, women, and children whose lives were taken deserve recognition.”

Chairman Royce is an active member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues.  In April of 2014, Royce led a bipartisan delegation to Armenia during which the delegation commemorated the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and placed a wreath at Tsitsernakaberd, the national memorial to the Genocide.
