Assembly To Participate in the Public Rededication of the Edwin Michaelian Westchester County Office Building in New York


Westchester, NY - The Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly) will participate in the public rededication of the Edwin Michaelian County of Westchester Office Building in Westchester, New York, on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 10 am. Speakers will include Van Krikorian, Esq., Co-Chair of the Assembly, Bishop Mesrob Parsamyan, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern), and Rev. Fr. Mesrop Hovsepyan, Pastor of the St. Gregory the Enlightener Armenian Church.


Appointed as the fourth Westchester county executive, Edwin served in the position from 1958 until 1973, and was instrumental in bringing a number of large corporations to Westchester, including IBM, Nestle, PepsiCo, Texaco, and AT&T. An important figure during the county's postwar growth, he oversaw the construction of a new county courthouse, the approval of the Westchester Medical Center, bolstering Westchester Community College and SUNY-Purchase, and acquiring 4,000 acres of parkland, among many other noteworthy achievements.


A native New Yorker, Edwin was born in 1906 and graduated from Yale University. His public service began in 1939 as White Plains councilman, followed by serving as a naval officer in World War II from 1943-1945, and then as mayor of White Plains from 1950-1957.


The rededication event, which will highlight Armenian culture and community in Westchester County, will take place at the Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Avenue, White Plains, NY. The event will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/westchestergov.
