Please join the Armenian Assembly of America and the Southern California Armenian community for a special luncheon honoring California State Senator Anthony Portantino on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Chevy Chase Country Club, in Glendale, CA.

Senator Portantino, who represented California's 25th State Senate District, and served in the legislature since 2006, has been a recognized leader in the Armenian diaspora for his advocacy of Genocide affirmation and longstanding ties to the Armenian community.

Senator Portantino's pro-Armenian accomplishments include:

Strengthening California-Armenia Relations

Senator Portantino founded and chaired the Select Committee of California, Armenia and Artsakh Mutual Trade, Culture and Art, fostering greater economic and cultural ties between California and Armenia.

Genocide Recognition

Consistently championing the acknowledgment of the Armenian Genocide, Senator Portantino has authored multiple resolutions commemorating the genocide and has tirelessly urged federal and international recognition of the historical tragedy. He sponsored the Sacramento screening of The Promise for legislators and capital staff.

Artsakh

Senator Portantino has made four trips to Artsakh, including two visits to the Agdam front where he met with brave soldiers defending their homeland. At the personal invitation of Human Rights Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan, he is the only elected official in America to have ventured into Artsakh after the 44-Day War. In an effort to hold Azerbaijan accountable for many of its actions, Senator Portantino held an official Senate Hearing on the Sumgait Pogroms.

Financial Support

In addition to the Armenian American Museum, Senator Portantino has spearheaded state support for Homenetman Scouts, HeroHouse, Glendale’s Tech Hub and local schools.

Legislative Actions

Including making it possible for Glendale Community College to close for the observance of April 24th without facing monetary loss.

Registration is available here. Please register by March 4, 2025. If you have any questions, please contact David Ojakian at dojakian@aaainc.org or (626) 577-0025.
