Assembly's 50th Anniversary Gala to Feature Amb. Sarukhán & Correspondent Anita Vogel


Los Angeles, CA - The Armenian Assembly of America's (Assembly) 50th Anniversary Gala, taking place on Sunday evening, June 5, 2022 at the Los Angeles Jonathan Club's outdoor "Great Lawn," will feature special guest speaker Arturo Sarukhán, the former Ambassador of Mexico to the United States, and Anita Vogel, a national news correspondent who will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.


Ambassador Arturo Sarukhán

A career diplomat, who currently serves as a Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution, Ambassador in Residence at American University’s School of International Service, adjunct professor at The George Washington University, distinguished visiting professor at the Annenberg School of Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California, Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center’s Mexico Institute, and as an Associate Fellow at The Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) in the UK, Ambassador Sarukhán dedicated 22 years to Mexico’s Foreign Service, where he served as Mexico's Ambassador to the United States from 2007 to 2013, and became a digital diplomacy pioneer. Ambassador Sarukhán has also served as Mexico’s Consul General in New York, and chief of policy planning and deputy assistant secretary for inter-American affairs at the Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has been decorated by Spain and Sweden, and is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions for his diplomatic career. Sarukhán’s paternal grandparents, both of Armenian descent, each fled their respective countries due to political upheavals and the Armenian Genocide, finally settling in Mexico. He is based in Washington, D.C.


National News Correspondent Anita Vogel

Anita Vogel is a lauded correspondent and anchor for FOX News, where she spent the last two decades covering a range of issues from politics to natural disasters to entertainment to human-interest stories. Vogel began her journalism career at ABC News in Washington, D.C. as a desk assistant for This Week with David Brinkley, and continued onto reporting posts at KCRA-TV (NBC 3) in Sacramento, CA, WTLV-TV (NBC 12) in Jacksonville, FL, and WJET-TV (ABC 24) in Erie, PA. Based in Los Angeles and New York City, Vogel is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. She has received numerous awards throughout her career, including a regional Emmy Award for "Best Newscast," and a Golden Mike Award in "Best Breaking News Coverage" for her exclusive interview with former United States President Bill Clinton during the Nevada caucuses. Vogel is Armenian on her mother’s side and has widely acknowledged her Armenian heritage, expressing pride at having been raised as an Armenian along with her brother. The Assembly's 50th Anniversary Gala will honor Professors Richard Hovannisian and Dennis Papazian, two prominent leaders of the Assembly, with its Distinguished Humanitarian Award, while Los Angeles Deputy Mayor of International Affairs, Ambassador Nina Hachigian, will be the recipient of the Assembly’s George Deukmejian Award for Public Service.
