On April 18, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received Günther Bächler, Special Representative for the South Caucasus of the OSCE German Chairperson-in-Office.
Nalbandian presented the current situation in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, which was the result of military actions and ongoing cease-fire violations by Azerbaijan.
On behalf of the German Chairmanship of the OSCE, Ambassador Bächler offered his condolences for the human losses from the military actions, expressing his deep concern with the recent situation along the Line of Contact between Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karabakh.
During the meeting, they discussed continuing the negotiation process within the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. Nalbandian explained Armenia’s stance on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh issue.
They both agreed on the importance to support the Co-Chairs’ efforts directed towards an exclusively peaceful settlement of the issue, especially considering the current circumstances.
“The Azerbaijani side does not cease speculations around the negotiation process. Whereas the Co-Chairs’ proposals are well known and clearly formulated, including the five statements by the Heads of states of the Co-Chair countries, the cornerstone of which is the realization of the right of the people of Nagorno Karabakh to self-determination,” Nalbandian said. “On numerous occasions Armenia has stated that it is ready to continue negotiations based on them.”
