WASHINGTON, D.C. – House
Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) applauded yesterday’s vote by
the German Bundestag to recognize the Armenian Genocide, during which 1.5
million innocent lives were taken.
“Germany’s vote to recognize the Armenian Genocide is a major
event. Acknowledging this dark moment in history is a victory for human
rights. The annihilation of millions of Armenians was genocide.
Period. And the 1.5
million innocent men, women, and children whose lives were taken deserve
recognition.”
Note: Chairman Royce is an
active member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues. In April of
2014, Royce led a bipartisan delegation to Armenia during which the delegation
commemorated the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and placed a wreath
at Tsitsernakaberd, the national memorial to the Genocide.
