On February
13, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian attended the Munich Security
Conference where he met with Conference Chairman Wolfgang Ischinger, the OSCE
Minsk Group Co-Chairs, and Federal Government of Germany Special Representative
for the OSCE Chairmanship Gernot Erler.

Nalbandian applauded
the Munich Security Conference for presenting on current international security
challenges each year. He sat down with the Conference Chairman Ischinger to
personally thank him for his hard work and wish him success in holding similar sessions
in the future. During their meeting, they discussed issues of the Conference
and the importance of organizing comprehensive talks on security issues, and
solutions to current problems through negotiations.

Nalbandian addressed
the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict with the OSCE Minsk
Group Co-Chairs Igor Popov (Russia), James Warlick (U.S.), Pierre Andrieu
(France), and OSCE Chairman in Office Personal Representative Andrzej Kasprzyk.

“By ignoring
the targeted appeals of the international community, Azerbaijan continues to
drastically violate trilateral agreements on the establishment and
consolidation of the ceasefire regime, refuses the creation of mechanisms for investigating
incidents, undertakes attempts to shift the discussions on the settlement of
the issue into other formats, and criticizes the Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship
format. All of these prove that Baku spares no efforts to undermine the
settlement process,” Nalbandian said. “Furthermore, those actions of the
Azerbaijani side, as well as the public refusal to meet with the Co-Chairs,
contribute to the maintenance of the status-quo, to which Co-Chairs and Armenia
have always opposed,” he continued.

Nalbandian reaffirmed that Armenia will continue its joint efforts with the OSCE
Minsk Group Co-Chairs to resolve the Nagorno Karabakh issue exclusively through
peaceful means.

Later that
day, Nalbandian met with Erler and outlined the current efforts by Armenia and
the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs for Karabakh, emphasizing the importance of
supporting the Co-Chairs’ activities. During this meeting, Nalbandian touched
upon the OSCE agenda issues and implementation of the German Chairmanship’s
priorities, discussing regional and international security issues in addition
to settlement possibilities.
